Our Mission
The purpose of She’s the First GW is to advocate for the advancement of girl’s education in low-income nations around the globe. Through She’s the First GW, we will financially support girls’ education while educating the GW community about global gender education equality issues.
What does She's The First do?
"She’s the First provides scholarships to girls in low-income countries, fostering first-generation graduates and cultivating the next generation of global leaders. Working closely with our international, locally-driven NGO partners, scholars at primary and secondary school levels are identified based on financial need, scholastic merit, and their potential to become positive influencers and leaders within their communities."
Why Educate Girls?
"Educating girls is about both equality and improving developing economies. Girls who receive a secondary education earn 18% higher wages than girls who did not receive the education. This compares to a 14% difference for boys.While there are millions of deserving boys in the world, She’s the First focuses its efforts on girls because they have statistically faced greater challenges. In the countries where STF works, the rate of enrollment for girls in secondary school is only 33 percent."
